Biffle intends to stay at Roush Fenway until he retires
May 2, 2008
Greg Biffle is not leaving Roush Fenway Racing. The driver said last week that he isn’t in a hurry to sign a contract extension, but he explained Friday that he simply meant he wasn’t rushing the inevitable deal.
Biffle has no intention of leaving the only team he’s ever driven full time for in NASCAR.
“[My] 100 percent intent is to work out an extension with Roush,” Biffle said Friday at Richmond International Raceway, site of Saturday night’s Crown Royal 400 Sprint Cup race. “I just want to take the time necessary to get, I don’t know how to word it, get everything set up the way I’d like to see it from team-wise and from a PR standpoint and things like that.”
Biffle enjoys his role at Roush Fenway and has been competing in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series with the team for the past few seasons. He was the 1998 Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year competing for Roush and is the only driver in series history to win championships in both the truck and what is now the Nationwide series.
He’s been Cup racing for team owner Jack Roush full time since 2003 and finished a career-high second in the series standings in 2005.
Biffle seems to enjoy his time with the team – and plans to keep that relationship intact. So he’s just fine-tuning points within his contract, not looking for employment elsewhere.
“I want to stay at Roush Fenway until I retire,” Biffle said. “They know that. I guess when I said I’m not in a hurry is I’m not panicked … I’m comfortable that I’m returning to Roush Fenway, so that time’s really not an issue for me.”
